Patient Education: Total Knee Replacement

Recent studies have shown that the results of total knee replacement are far better than had ever been anticipated. Active patients may continue stressful activities such as tennis, skiing and even competitive cycling. This information has led to the development of total knee devices designed for long term high performance.  The Advance Medial Pivot Knee is the result of intensive scientific research in the fields of Biomechanics and Technology. It is the only total knee design that actually reproduces the motion of the human knee. As such, to has shown greater possible range of motion and performance than older designs. The normal human knee is capable of about 130 degrees of motion. Most total knees average less than 110 degrees which is sufficient for daily activities but not higher levels of performance. While individual cases may vary and individuals may attain different results, as shown in this graph, the Advance Medial Pivot offers the potential to achieve motion that is much closer to normal with many patients actually achieving full motion and the average attaining over 10 to 15 degrees more than patients with other devices.
